PM: Greece Considering Ban on Social Media for Under-16s

The Greek PM cited concerns about online safety, AI risks, and the well-being of younger generations.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced this week that his government is exploring the possibility of banning social media use for children under the age of 16. “We in Greece are ready to go a step further and seriously consider banning social media use by setting age restrictions like those implemented in Australia,” Mitsotakis said. The prime minister pointed to steps already taken in Greece, including the ban on smartphones in schools, which he described as a “massive change” in the classroom environment.
