Police issue warning after reports of suspected scam involving Apple Pay 'fraud department'


A local police department is warning residents to look out for a suspected scam that starts with a fishy text.

According to Manheim Township Police, the scam involves the victim receiving a text message from someone claiming to be from the Apple Pay Fraud Department. The "FDIC representative" then tells the victim how to set up a Bitcoin account and instructs them to transfer their money it, according to police. Never provide any personal or financial information over the phone or via text message/social media messaging apps."
