News - AI research and education at UCD and career opportunities in Ireland - Political Bias on X before the 2025 German Federal Election - A new Book co-authored by UCD CS Assoc. Prof.

In advance of the elections on on 23 February 2025, a team 1 led by Assistant Professor Przemyslaw Grabowicz in the UCD School of Computer Science examined whether German X users would see politically balanced news feeds if they followed comparable leading politicians from each federal parliamentary party of Germany. The sock puppets followed seven to nine members from each of the eight major German federal parliamentary parties (ordered from left-wing to right-wing: BSW, Linke, SPD, Greens, FDP, CDU, CSU, AfD). These results show that X disproportionately highlights extremes of the German political spectrum, in particular the populist parties: left-wing BSW and right-wing AfD.
