Poll: Banning state regulation of AI is massively unpopular


The One Big Beautiful Act would prohibit states from regulating AI, but voters really don't like the idea.

Federal lawmakers in the Senate are poised to take up the One Big Beautiful Bill Act next week, but a new poll suggests that one of its controversial provisions is clearly unpopular with voters on both sides of the aisle. The vast majority of respondents, regardless of their political affiliation, agreed that Congress shouldn't ban states from enacting or enforcing their own youth online safety and privacy laws. Last week, Common Sense Media joined a coalition of advocacy organizations, including Fairplay and the Center For Humane Technology, in an appeal to congressional leadership to drop the AI moratorium from the GOP-led budget.
