Postal traffic to US down by over 80% amid tariffs, UN says

Postal flows to the United States have almost come to a halt, with 88 operators worldwide fully or partially suspending services, the Universal Postal Union said.

Critics say the flood of low-value imports hurts US retailers, means potentially unsafe items could flow unchecked into the country and makes it easier to ship fentanyl and other drugs into the United States. The agency is working on "the rapid development of a new technical solution that will help get mail moving to the United States again," UPU Director General Masahiko Metoki said in a statement. The list of postal services that have announced a halt to parcel shipping for business customers to the US includes Mexico, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, India and Switzerland.
