PS5 sales have passed the 80 million mark

Sony’s latest console has the PS3 in its sights, but matching PS4 sales is still a long way off.

Digital accounted for 83 percent of PS4 and PS5 games sold in the last quarter, which is a larger share than in any three-month period in the previous financial year. The last few years saw Sony briefly shift its focus towards live service games, but one of those was a well-documented disaster, and others have since been cancelled. PS5 prices increased in the UK, Australia and New Zealand earlier this year, with Sony blaming a “challenging economic environment” in which it is fighting against high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.
