Akane Austin - one of four studios closed as part of a shock announcement by Microsoft earlier today - was reportedly working on a major update for its embattled vampire shooter Redfall, that was set to release this month. As per IGN, Redfall's Hero Pass was set to add two new characters this "Halloween" - almost a year and a half after the game's critically panned launch - while an offline mode was due to release as part of a new update later this month, until Microsoft's closure decision put an end to those plans. Watch on YouTube Last year, Redfall game director Harvey Smith told Eurogamer the studio was "working actively" to remove its hugely unpopular always-online requirement when playing strictly in single-player mode - and it's failure to launch raises questions about the game's future should Microsoft take the next step of pulling Redfall's servers offline.
