An international team of scientists, led by Dr. Javier Sellanes of the Universidad Católica del Norte, has identified over 100 potentially new species thriving on underwater mountains, or seamounts, off the coast of Chile.. The recent expedition, conducted by the Schmidt Ocean Institute, explored seamounts along the Nazca and Salas y Gómez Ridge, revealing a wealth of deep-sea corals, glass sponges, sea urchins, amphipods, squat lobsters, and other species that may be entirely new to science.
