Russia is trying to meddle with the US election again, Biden administration says

The US had accused Russian officials of interfering in 2016.

In a separate action, the DOJ accused two employees of the Russian state-controlled media outlet RT of conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and commit money laundering. In 2020, the Senate Intelligence Committee released a report finding President Putin condoned an influence campaign meant to support Donald Trump’s ascendance to the White House in 2016. “The Justice Department will not tolerate attempts by an authoritarian regime to exploit our country’s free exchange of ideas in order to covertly further its own propaganda efforts,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement alongside the announcement of the RT employees’ indictment, “and our investigation into this matter remains ongoing.”
