Why is Rust now being used to replace parts of the JavaScript web ecosystem like minification (Terser), transpilation (Babel), formatting (Prettier), bundling (webpack), linting (ESLint), and more? Rome, created in August 2020, is a linter, compiler, bundler, test runner, and more, for JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, JSON, Markdown, and CSS. While we aren't there yet, it's interesting to see Rust coming after the web on both sides: making existing JavaScript tooling faster and future-forward ideas for compiling to WASM.
