Scientists film a living colossal squid for the first time
Scientists have managed to film a colossal squid in its natural environment for the first time. This species was originally discovered 100 years ago.
Chief scientist Dr. Michelle Taylor said the team was unsure it was even a colossal squid at first, but filmed it anyway because it was "beautiful and unusual." "It's exciting to see the first in situ footage of a juvenile colossal and humbling to think that they have no idea that humans exist," said Dr. Kat Bolstad. Dying adults have been spotted near the surface of the ocean but this is the first time a specimen has been filmed in its natural element.
