See ‘Shooting Stars’ From Halley’s Comet As Top Meteor Shower Peaks

The Eta Aquariids meteor shower, caused by debris from Halley's Comet, will peak on May 4-5, 2024, in dark, moonless skies.

By lucky chance, that peak night—May 4/5—comes just before a new moon, when our natural satellite is roughly between the Earth and the sun. However, since its radiant point is the constellation Aquarius, it makes sense to look vaguely to the southeast from the northern hemisphere. Anytime after dark is good, though the skies are at their darkest around midnight, which will reveal more of the fainter “shooting stars.”
