Setting up a cache server for apt packages

Setting up a cache server for apt packages 03 Sep 2024 | 11 min read Some notes on setting up an apt-cacher-ng based cache server for Debian...

While the apt-cacher-ng manual is great, I couldn't find a description of this log format, but there's a Unix epoch style timestamp, the IP address of the client (the "cacheclient1" container in this case) and the resource in question. While I could remove the build-essential package and rerun the install, I can instead create a second client container and do the same thing again, which feels like a cleaner test and better comparison. But it's more the reduction in Internet traffic that I'm interested in anyway, and in reality I get pretty quick turnaround times over the LAN from my real cache server that I run on the "cacher" container on my Proxmox host.
