Shapeshifting battery can stretch 5000%, retain charge after 70 cycles | Researchers used material used to make contact lenses to make the battery flexible.
The battery uses a stretchable electrolyte that also improves its charging capacity six times that of an average battery.
However, as the world of electronics undergoes a sea change with more flexible devices such as rollable phones, screens, and wearable health monitors going mainstream, the batteries that power them also need an overhaul. Previous attempts at building flexible batteries have involved using conductive fabric or the help of crafts such as origami, where rigid components are folded into specific shapes and can be stretched within certain limits. The researchers began by spreading a thin film of conductive paste containing silver nanowires, carbon black, and lithium-based cathode and anode materials onto a plate.
