Silicon EV battery breakthrough hits 500 charges, 80% life, 50% more energy
LeydenJar has developed a groundbreaking 100% silicon anode battery that operates without external pressure, achieving 500+ cycles.
A Netherland-based firm has announced the development and production of lithium-ion batteries with a 100% silicon anode “capable of delivering 500 charge-discharge cycles without requiring any external pressure.” This breakthrough could accelerate the adoption of silicon anodes in electric vehicles (EVs) and consumer electronics, addressing a critical challenge that has previously limited their use. Besides, another US-based company, Amprius Technologies, introduced a new EV battery that features a silicon anode and can reach a 90 percent state-of-charge in 15 minutes.
