Starting with macOS Tahoe beta 1, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 standards are no longer supported.


According to @NekoMichiUBC on X, and a Reddit thread, the first developer beta of macOS Tahoe does not include support for the IEEE 1394 standard, which Apple calls FireWire. Older external drives, capturing footage from MiniDV cameras, and even the first generation iPod aren’t compatible. However, it’s still several months before macOS Tahoe is officially released. FireWire support could still return, but the last computer Apple released with the port was the 13-inch 2012 MacBook Pro.
