Stellaris devs using AI-generated voices to voice AI characters in-game – it’s the circle of life


Stellaris' latest DLC - The Machine Age has only gone and used AI generated voices for its AI characters. Not everybody likes.

To allay those fears that Paradox was ditching its living, breathing talent, Stellaris’ game director Stephen Muray made a series of posts explaining the process. Some Stellaris players have taken to voice their disproval via the time-honored method of moaning about something you don’t like – the Steam Reviews page, but it certainly seems in this case, Paradox is trying to do the right thing by paying the originating actors. Having spent time as Head of Communications at a professional sports club and working for high-profile charities such as the National Literacy Trust, he returned as Managing Editor in charge of large US-based technology websites in 2020.
