Stretchable solar cells retain 95% efficiency after 100 stretches

Researchers have created a stretchable solar cell that registers only a 20% drop in power conversion efficiency when stretched 1.5 times.

To achieve this, Fukuda’s team used an organic compound identified as ION E in the electrode layer of the solar cell. Wearable tech powered directly by solar energy could help round-the-clock monitoring and applications in the medical field, too. The research team intends to use this to create solar cells with large surface areas that will generate larger energy outputs.
