Supporting game design with evolutionary algorithms


Evolutionary algorithms can optimize game parameters by simulating various scenarios, enhancing design, especially for complex games.

These concepts were introduced in 1859 by Charles Darwin in a book titled “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life”. After reading the previous section, it is clear by now that most fitness evaluation functions for our purposes will require the ability to perform a vast number of simulations of the game. In the latter case, your evolutionary algorithm object must persist between the restarts, or be written and read from the disk or executed on an external server that communicates with the machine that performs the simulations.
