Synopsys acquires Intrinsic ID to boost chip designs


Synopsys has broadened its semiconductor intellectual property portfolio with the acquisition of Intrinsic ID.

Sunnyvale, California-based Synopsys, which is publicly traded on Nasdaq, has completed the acquisition of Intrinsic ID, a provider of Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) IP utilized in system-on-chip (SoC) designs. The acquisition, finalized on March 20, 2024, marks a significant expansion of Synopsys’ semiconductor IP portfolio, empowering SoC designers worldwide to enhance security and protect their chips through the generation of unique identifiers. Joachim Kunkel, general manager of the solutions group at Synopsys, emphasized the growing importance of PUF technology in today’s interconnected landscape, citing its applications in identification and product tracking.
