Tesla fans who paid $1,000 to order EVs eight years are still waiting for cars to arrive


In April 2016, Elon Musk invited Indians to preorder the upcoming Tesla Model 3. Vishal Gondal was one of the first to sign up, paying a $1,000 deposit for a car that never arrived

However, the American automaker has yet to deliver, seemingly due to concerns over high taxes making the cars too costly in India, coupled with the challenges of establishing an Indian factory if production were to be moved from China. There was widespread anticipation in India for Musk to announce a factory during a planned visit in April, but he abruptly called off the trip, attributing the change to "very heavy Tesla obligations." The EV market has seen a significant transformation in India and other parts of the world over the past five years, with Tesla's own position shifting as it established massive factories in China, Germany and the US
