Tesla is already trying to expand its robotaxi service to Arizona


Tesla has applied for a permit to test and deploy autonomous vehicles in Arizona. It's also eyeing expansion in Austin, Texas and California.

Tesla has applied to test and operate autonomous vehicles in Arizona in a bid to bring its fledgling robotaxi service to the Metro Phoenix area, the state’s Department of Transportation confirmed to TechCrunch. Tesla’s reach-out came from Casey Blaine, the company’s senior counsel for regulatory, and she has already held a virtual meeting with the state’s DOT as well as with Arizona’s Commerce Authority, according to emails obtained by TechCrunch through a records request. He previously worked at The Verge, where he also covered consumer technology, hosted many short- and long-form videos, performed product and editorial photography, and once nearly passed out in a Red Bull Air Race plane.
