That post-grad software job might be harder to get, thanks to AI


New research shows the AI revolution is impacting younger workers more than older ones - but all hope is not lost.

A new paper evaluating AI's effects on the workforce tracked millions of workers' payroll records through July 2025 to offer a real-time view of labor market fluctuations. Workers ages 22 to 25 see the steepest declines in employment -- by 12 points, to be exact -- especially in fields that are the most "AI-exposed" or where AI automates tasks, like software development or customer service. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has made similar predictions that AI could cut entry-level jobs in as soon as one to five years, while bringing unemployment to as much as 20%.
