The Ancients Had Ops
While the “Dev” and “ML” parts of DevOps and MLOps are new, the “Ops” part is ancient, and the properties of good Ops have remained constant from antiquity to present.
2 MLOps, DevOps, PyramidOps, TaxOps, WarOps, CyclOps, LollipOps, FlipflOps, TriceratOps, BarbershOps, MuttonchOps, MountaintOps, ArchbishOps, etc… The following famous xkcd comic is still a good rule of thumb, but only if you interpret “How Much Time You Shave Off” more broadly. The examples used in upcoming posts aim to be concrete, however the principles that underlie reproducibility and auditability will be general, and I hope any machine learning practitioner will be able to find value in the content, even if they have no interest in Guix or ZFS.
