The underlying technologies for ambient IoT are varied, so the Alliance aims to define them within the global communications standards developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth SIG, and 3GPP (5G Advanced). Delivering on the original promise of ambient IoT will generate huge amounts of data; there are privacy concerns with tracking; and it will be a challenge to get everyone on board with open standards and interoperability, as we have seen in the smart home space with Matter.
