The quest for a Wiki-less game

For games with dialogue options, I tend to have a wiki open all the time to check what effects every single one of those choices would have, because I don't want to end up with some inferior story or reward because I bet on the wrong dice roll. To solve this problem: Make sure that the way forward is always clear (or maybe have some hint or direction marker show up on command or if players take too long). To apply that to a more open world game, you could have repeating patterns that the player can identify (unlike Terraria where progression happens from unconsistent, sometimes unrelated, actions).
