While external reviewers only come in at each third of the book, the TDE is supposed to work more closely with the author throughout the entire process, helping shape the content, the overall structure, how chapters are divided, and so on. That brings a few new responsibilities, like keeping the content regularly updated for those who already paid, writing a welcome letter for MEAP readers, and starting to work with the marketing team on how to promote the book and raise awareness about it. Sure, the money I earned isn’t negligible (it paid for quite a few holidays, to be honest), but my main message is this: if you’re a new author, don’t think about writing your book to become rich.
