They pretend to know, give instructions, parrot catchphrases, bristle at the mere hint of correction, frantically ask ChatGPT for information about the topic, “take this offline”, slow-walk decisions—and they lose the respect of their team when they do. These won’t be technical questions, but they can help you build up business context, understand the “why” behind requests, get a feel for the relationship landscape of the company, and gain new perspectives on situations. For example, if you just asked them to change the text on the “Login” button, and they’re talking about new libraries and rewriting the credential store, there’s a good chance your team didn’t understand what you told them.
