This Blood Thinner Is More Effective Than Aspirin at Preventing Heart Attacks
Aspirin is commonly prescribed to patients with coronary artery disease to prevent heart attacks and strokes, but a new analysis has found that another drug, clopidogrel, is more effective and just as safe.
The specialists conducted a systematic search of medical databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase to find randomized trials of treatments for CAD published up to April 12, 2025. In the researchers’ view, these findings support using clopidogrel over aspirin in patients with established CAD to try to prevent them going on to have major complications as a result of their condition, such as a heart attack. Nevertheless, specialists stress that more extensive research is needed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of clopidogrel and its performance in diverse populations in order to support its inclusion in treatment standards.
