The World Health Organization states that a sedentary lifestyle — sitting for about 7–12 hours a day — leads to a "20% to 30% increased risk of death" over time, primarily due to heart issues, cancer, or diabetes, but also other conditions. Corroborating this claim, the Annals of Internal Medicine conducted a study that determined that "prolonged sedentary time was independently associated with deleterious health outcomes regardless of physical activity."
