Thousands Of Young People Told Us Why The Kids Online Safety Act Will Be Harmful To Minors
With KOSA passed, the information i can access as a minor will be limited and censored, under the guise of “protecting me”, which is the responsibility of my parents, NOT the government…
These teenagers have been baring their souls to explain how important social media access is to them, but lawmakers and civil liberties advocates, including us, have mostly been the ones talking about the bill and about what’s best for kids, and often we’re not hearing from minors in these debates at all. KOSA would effectively censor anything the government deems “harmful,” which could be anything from queerness and fandom spaces to anything else that deviates from “the norm.” People would lose support systems, education, and in some cases, any way to find out about who they are.
