With users increasingly making public statements on the platform, Douyin also pledged to fight the exploitation of hot-button issues on social media, such as impersonating others and spreading rumours. The new rules follow a similar crackdown last month by the internet watchdog, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), targeting influencers who fabricate controversial content and exploit trending topics to grab public attention on social media.
