TikTokers offered $5,000 to join Facebook and Instagram

Meta's attempt to lure creators to its platforms comes as questions remain over the future of its main rival in the US.

Though it does not mention TikTok by name, the timing would suggest Meta is attempting to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding its rival, as questions swirl about whether President Trump can find a way of preserving it for US users. TikTok says it has 170 million users in the US - with many of them relying on it for their livelihoods- meaning lots of people would be seeking an alternative place to post if the platform disappeared. Meta says on its website that those accepted into the so-called "Breakthrough bonus programme" will be paid the money during their first 90 days on the app, so long as they post regularly.
