Tip line that guards against child sexual abuse images may struggle against AI
A new report details the nonprofit’s ongoing struggles.
A new report from Stanford’s Internet Observatory said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline needs to improve its technology if it wants to meet the influx of AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The nonprofit center, which gets a large chunk of its budget from Congress, often offers lower salaries than other trust and safety teams within the industry, so it has a hard time retaining staff. Stanford recommends that online platforms improve their CSAM reporting API to work to ensure all necessary information is included, which allows the tip line agents to follow up on cases correctly.
