Trump calls for probe into California high speed rail project
"It's impossible that something could cost that much," Trump told reporters Tuesday.
The California High Speed Rail Authority wrote on X they're entering the track-laying phase, with 171 miles of it under active construction. In January, Republican Congressman Kevin Kiley introduced a bill in Washington that would cut federal funding to the project, saying it's unrealistic to keep spending money on it. Rail officials said they are focused on delivering the project in building blocks to get the Merced to Bakersfield system operational between 2030 and 2033.
