Trump threatens a 25 percent tariff on all smartphones not made in the US

President Donald Trump wants a potential 25 percent tariff on iPhones to apply to all smartphones not made in the US.

"It would be also Samsung and anybody that makes that product, otherwise it wouldn’t be fair," Trump said in a White House press conference following his earlier Truth Social post threatening the new tariff. That means Samsung, Google, and other phone makers selling smartphones in the US would also need to find a way to move production state-side, something most experts says is economically unfeasible. The Trump administration has been focused on the idea of a US-manufactured iPhone for months now, but this renewed attention stems from reporting that Apple has been trying to transition iPhone manufacturing to India to avoid the worst of the global trade war.
