Uber fined €290m for personal data transfer


The Dutch watchdog said the transfers were a "serious violation" of EU data protection regulation.

According to the watchdog, information including ID documents, taxi licences and location data was transferred to the company's headquarters in the US over a two-year period. DPA chairman Aleid Wolfsen said the company failed to meet GDPR requirements to “ensure the level of protection to the data with regard to transfers to the US.” "In Europe, the GDPR protects the fundamental rights of people, by requiring businesses and governments to handle personal data with due care," Mr Wolfsen said.
