UK households could face VPN 'ban' after use skyrockets following Online Safety Bill

Labour could ban the use of Virtual Private Networks after use skyrocketed in recent days.

Shadow digital minister Alex Davies-Jones said at the time that the clause “touches on the issue of future-proofing, which Labour has raised repeatedly in debates on the Bill.” He told the BBC despite posing a range of potential privacy risks, such apps "end up in the hands of kids trying to watch age-restricted content", or adults "trying to get round blocks". "This makes it easy for them to circumvent important protections introduced under the Online Safety Act, such as age checks designed to shield them from adult content," she told the BBC.
