Update: Microsoft and Phison internal testing finds no connection between Windows 11 updates and SSD failures


Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 security update is reportedly causing SSDs to disappear from the system, alongside all their stored files.

Brought to light by X user @Necoru_cat, the issue seems to rear its ugly head when running sustained sequential writes of about 50GB on a 60% full SSD, corrupting the drive’s SMART and rendering its telemetry unreadable. Standing for Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology, SMART is a system built into HDDs and SSDs to monitor their health and performance. Fluent in English, Arabic, and French, his motto when building a new rig is ‘il ne faut rien laisser au hasard.’
