US: Cancer patient’s voice restored with world’s first larynx transplant
After the successful transplant, the patient has already regained approximately 60% of his vocal function.
Marty Kedian, a U.S. man with a rare form of laryngeal (throat) cancer, received the first successful total larynx transplant in February. This is a tremendous accomplishment in launching what we believe is the future for laryngeal transplantation,” said David Lott, M.D., Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) – Head and Neck Surgery/Audiology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. “This clinical trial allows us to conduct a true scientific investigation aimed at thoroughly researching the safety and efficacy of laryngeal transplantation as a trusted option for patients.”
