Using GPS in the Year 1565

There’s a wonderful web app (“Allmaps Here”) that shows your GPS location on old maps. I love it.

It gives a unique view of the metropolis of Antwerp at the height of its economic power in the 1565.My location on this map (the pink dot) is just in front of the Plantin-Moretus Museum. The origins of its triangular shape are clear once you wander around the city using old maps.I’m frequently in Brussels (capital of Flanders, Belgium, Europe,…). On the left, you can see my location on my smartphone, on a 1777 topographic map of Brussels, standing in front of the Halle Gate (Hallepoort / Porte de Hal).
