Video editing app Captions switches to a freemium model to boost growth


Video editing app Captions is looking to cash in on uncertainty around TikTok and ByteDance's video editing app CapCut's future in the U.S. by turning to

The free tier will include basic video editing tools with features like adding subtitles and a teleprompter for recording, voiceovers, and more. The company’s CEO, Gaurav Misra, told TechCrunch that if CapCut gets banned, a lot of people will lose access to its video editing tools — and Captions wants to fill that gap. However, there are a lot of people who use different apps for traditional video editing without using AI-powered features, and our free tier is targeting that audience,” Misra said.
