We repaired an iPhone to see if iOS 18 fixes iPhone repair


From complicated to way more complicated.

This wasn’t just because I didn’t want to destroy a phone with a mistake but also because I was somewhat familiar with Apple’s reputation with repairability. This means you’ll be able to use genuine Apple used parts to make repairs, and iOS 18.1 is reported to extend functionality back to devices using third-party displays and batteries based on a promise from Apple’s whitepaper Longevity, by Design. Jessa also showed me some of the odd workarounds and pitfalls that come up in independent iPhone repair when parts can’t be sourced from Apple.
