What is Google's Gemini AI tool (formerly Bard)? Everything you need to know

Google's conversational AI chatbot keeps getting upgrades - it even just got a new name. Want to give Gemini (formerly Google Bard) a try? Here's what you need to know.

Google's decision to use its own LLMs -- LaMDA, PaLM 2, and Gemini -- was a bold one because some of the most popular AI chatbots right now, including ChatGPT and Copilot, use a language model in the GPT series. The full language list, as shared by Google, includes: Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified / Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malayalam, Marathi, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese. In ZDNET's experience, Bard also failed to answer basic questions, had a longer wait time, didn't automatically include sources, and paled in comparison to more established competitors.
