What It's Like to Work at a Body Farm
The scavengers are tricky, the smells are gross, and your colleagues are corpses. But some people—mostly women!—love this job.
By observing how fast cadavers break down in a controlled setting, investigators can learn more about decomposition and better pinpoint exactly what happened to dead bodies that are found in the real world. Employees spend their days answering emails, cleaning bones, and leaving corpses out in the sun. Or, when we get a new donor, we don’t know necessarily what we’ll find when we remove that sheet or open that body bag.
