As is the case with new options in the marketplace, like cellular phones and high-speed Internet, new reporting categories in the annual child count are not capitalized upon instantaneously; they require incrementally magnified awareness and augmentation or reallocation of resources. If you’ve read this far, you’ll no doubt have realized that the difference in diagnosis rates between children and adults stems from the former being exposed to a far greater level of novel identification criteria and practices, because autism is supposed to be diagnosed early. People have tried to argue for all sorts of out-there causes that imply we’re mismanaging our health systems, giving out drugs too willy-nilly, getting infected en masse and just generally being imbeciles about toxins in ways that are counter-indicated by real data.
