Why can't my mom email me?

Proton email keeps sending my non-Proton email accounts encrypted emails. I figure out why and show you how to turn it off.

I'm a big user of email, preferring long chains to messaging apps for a lot of my friends and contacts. So the reason why so many people I know are moving to Proton is they seem to be the only game in town that has cracked sending encrypted emails in the least annoying way possible. I'll update this with whatever I hear back from Proton but in the meantime if you stumble across this post after getting blank emails from people for months, you'll at least be able to fix it.
