Harvey’s had a lot of work to do since he started as CEO of the Recording Academy in January 2020 — his predecessor was ousted just five months into the role in a swirl of scandals, and the Grammys — along with the Emmys and Oscars — were facing a reckoning with massive race and gender inequality in the awards. That’s been Harvey’s biggest project, actually: the Recording Academy just completely requalified its pool of voting members for the Grammys as part of a yearslong effort to bring in younger voters and more women and people of color.
