Wind farms have generated more than a third of Ireland’s electricity so far this year
Wind farms created 35pc of Ireland’s electricity supply in the first five months of this year.
Justin Moran, director of external affairs at Wind Energy Ireland, said: “Every time a wind turbine or solar panel is generating electricity, it’s reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels, helping to push down wholesale electricity prices and increasing our supply of clean energy.” For the first time since WEI began publishing data at a county level, Kerry was knocked off the top spot as Ireland’s leading source of wind energy. “Irish wind farms, particularly in Cork, are playing a huge part in reducing Ireland’s carbon emissions by over 4 million tonnes a year.”
