Sarah Kreps, profiled as part of TechCrunch's series on women in AI, is a professor of government at Cornell University.

Google Gemini’s problematic rollout showed the caricature that can arise from aligning with a narrow set of developers’ values in ways that actually led to (almost) laughable historical inaccuracies in their outputs. Those issues aren’t of the existential risk variety but do create the fabric of society and confer considerable power into the big firms (e.g., OpenAI, Google, Meta and so on) that are responsible for those models. I recently wrote a piece for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which started out covering nuclear weapons but has adapted to address disruptive technologies like AI.
